"Such was the strange world which was now home to some thousands of human beings. For all its harshness, they loved it and would not return to Earth, where life was easy and therefore offered little scope for enterprise or initiative."
--Arthur C. Clarke, Earthlight
LOL. I just read "And why should anything be going on in a slaughterhouse like it's up in Maine?" and then realized that the sentence actually reads "And why should anything be going on in a slag-heap like the Mare?"
Clearly my brain is ready for bed, and I'm prepared to take it there, right after I finish up my final report and this end-of-event meme. =) Hopefully LJ, which has been a butt all evening but particularly so over the past hour, will allow me to post it with a minimum of hassle.
1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
Hour 1 was a little slow to get started. I really hit the wall in hour 23, though.
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
On the Road is basically a big racuous party from start to finish, and it certainly kept me awake.
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
Not particularly.
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
I loved the Where Are You Reading From? map--for those not participating, everyone reading could add a location tag to a Google map, to see how international the read-a-thon participants are.
5. How many books did you read?
Four altogether; I finished three.
6. What were the names of the books you read?
On the Road, Jack Kerouac
The Sound and the Fury, William Faulkner
The Glorious Adventure, Richard Halliburton
Earthlight, Arthur C. Clarke
7. Which book did you enjoy most?
The Halliburton book.
8. Which did you enjoy least?
The Faulkner.
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
n/a
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
100% likely, as a reader again.
