D accidentally hit someone on his way to campus Thursday morning. The person he hit ran out into the street without looking and though D tried to swerve, the other guy was knocked down and D fell off of his bike. D was extremely apologetic and the man was very nice about it. I ended up running out to get some bandages as D's knee was cut in addition to swelling up. We ended up replacing the front wheel as it was bent and we hope to sell it before we leave.
An old friend from university got in touch in few days ago to say that she would be in Jerusalem for a few days. She was here last month (I wrote about her at the end of
this post). She was visiting the same friend she stayed with last time. The friend lives in a more remote part of the city and they drove down yesterday afternoon to hang out. To make a very long story short, we were expecting a guest for dinner (someone that D knows through various conferences), the friend has three kids and is not coping very well and ended up staying till 7 or so. My friend, R, was torn between wanting to stay with us and going back to help her friend (the friend's husband is away at the moment). R ended up staying and it was really fun. As I wrote last time, she's really good with kids and my big two adore her. I actually started cooking while her friend was still here and the food was lovely: chick pea curry, yellow rice, carrot salad, cabbage salad (N's recipe), vegetable saiad and fennel salad. Mmmmm. I'm sorry to say that I just wasn't bothered enough to make dessert, so it was cake from a shop. Oh well. We had leftovers for lunch (there was nothing left of the carrot salad or fennel salad).
The friend from Tel Aviv with two boys (I wrote about him
here) is coming to Jerusalem today! His wife's choir is performing just outside Jerusalem today so they'll head over after the performance and we'll take the kids to the park and then cook dinner together :-)
Otherwise, today has mostly been about cleaning, laundry and packing. We're leaving for our trip up north tomorrow morning! I promised that we'd pile all of our stuff into the closet in our bedroom, so this has been good preparation for leaving in (gulp) just under four weeks. All of our winter clothes are packed in anticipation of returning to the UK. Most of the stuff (toys, books) that N let us borrow are packed up so we can return them this week (we're keeping a few of J's favorites and will give them to a friend to pass along). The winter clothes (and coat) that J has grown out of are bagged up and ready to be passed along to whoever wants them. On the other hand, we also just bought six wineglasses that will take up the space of the things we're leaving behind. I hope we manage to fit in various new acquisitions (clothes for me, birthday presents for B and J, etc).
