This weekend has gone really well, all things considered. D and I are feeling really good together, B and M are happy, J shrieking and biting minimally.
I ended up working yesterday - despite the fact that not working on Saturdays was part of the agreement when JC hired me - and really enjoyed it. D was far from pleased, but the fact is, I've called in sick and/or have had to miss work because of childcare issues and am never really in a position to help out when someone else needs to miss work. Work wasn't as busy as it has (apparently) been on the Saturdays leading up to Christmas, but then people are probably getting hit with credit card bills around now and are not going to be in a spending mode. The sun was out for a large chunk of the day, so I was able to keep the door open. Had loads of fun at work.
A few people from work and the future housemate of a co-worker came over for dinner at 8. I threw together a chick pea curry and some rice, and heated up leftovers from work [D: Seriously? We're eating store food?]. We had a few more little bits that people brought and some wine and it was really nice. Admittedly, D was a bit out of it as we all know eachother from work and hanging out, but he managed and even enjoyed himself a little. The future housemate of my co-worker will be watching our cats while we're away (that's a whole drama in itself - and I will get around to posting about it at some point) and had a lovely time meeting and getting to know them a bit.
D wanted to take B and M ice skating this weekend and IKEA is right next door, so we headed off this morning. J and I had a pretty good time walking around looking at things (and even choosing a few, including a new red potty) while the other three were doing their thing. They met up with us while we were having lunch and we drove home in time for J to nap. I spent part of the afternoon with that same woman who is going to watch the cats; she wanted me to come over to see if I thought it would be a good place for them to stay. We had tea together - she's another one of these people that I seem to be able to connect with despite not know her very long or well. I'm really pleased my co-worker will be renting a room in her house - seems like a nice place.
It was four miles each way on the bike and I got home around 5 to discover that J was still napping. He woke up pretty soon after and we decided to go to our favorite south Indian restaurant (they have a buffet on weekends) for dinner. Ended up running into some people I know through work - funny, because I ran into them last time we were there and their kids always get really excited to see me in a different context. Unfortunately I tripped getting into the car when we were leaving and I twisted my right ankle and banged my left shin. This is in addition to being really sore from the bike ride. Ho hum.
