Busy-ish times here.  The week has gone by in a blur of work and baking for the cafe and taking care of the kids.

Kids were back at school on Monday after the not-so-busy half term break.  B was dying to get back, M not so much.  I really think he needs a day off with one of us but there was simply no way to manage it this week, plus it doesn't really work if J is there too.  Not sure what to do with him as he's very moody and easily upset these days.  His class is full of active, energetic children - which is good in some respects, but there seems to be a fashion of forming teams and "battling" (as M says) and I think he's finding it too much.  He's made a new friend - an American! - whose mother is visiting D's department this semester.  We're having them all over for dinner tomorrow.

Work on Wednesday and Thursday.  Managed to go to a cool cooking demo on Thursday night but was annoyed during the talk as the woman giving it pretty much recited the entire powerpoint.  I could have done without that.

D took off work on Friday and we sent J to the childminder so we could go through the loft and the sheds and figure out what to do with our stuff.  We took two loads home, some things to the tip and managed a lunch out in town which was really lovely :-D
I managed some painting at the house yesterday before it was time to collect all the kids.

And our former next door neighbors had the business card of someone who apparently found a letter I sent in the street - a letter I had actually taken to the post office and paid the postage for!  It was found without a stamp at a busy junction near the post office.

I phoned him back yesterday evening and went over there with some chocolates.  Funnily enough, I found a checkbook in the street about a year ago and made a whole bunch of phone calls and eventually found the owner.  So it must have been a case of good karma.

What else?  I've gone vegan for World Vegan Month.  D is more than tolerating the situation for the moment.  The fact is, I've been heading in this direction for years and most of what I eat is vegan anyway.  M announced at dinner last night that
he was going vegan for a month, then quickly changed his mind when the skillet of paneer and red pepper made an appearance - along side the chick pea curry.  To be fair, I was quick to point out that this is a decision he can make when he's older (if he wants to) and D was very firm that no one else in the family was becoming vegan.

This morning D drove me into town (it was raining) to drop off cakes, the left me at the paint store where I finally matched the color in the living room and back room of the old house.  Spent much of the morning and into the afternoon painting.  I was initially disappointed not to have any music (I always listen to music and sing while I paint) but it turned out to be a good thing.  I spent much of the time thinking some things through.  Bought D a beautiful white rose on the way home and our kitchen now smells like roses :-)

I baked some cooking for A's Halloween/housewarming do this evening.  It was J's first party and in those terms it went pretty well in that he was completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of people crammed into that house and stayed close to us.  I ended up taking him home around 7:30.

I've had loads to think about lately.  I really should get around to writing some of it but I feel I can't.  Even here.
