I want to say that nothing much has happened in the last week - except in little dribs and drabs. Thursday I went to work and then had a text from D in the afternoon to say he was back from Geneva and was picking up the kids. Reunion was pretty good, much better than that after his return from the US. D presented me with a box of really nice (fancy) chocolates from Paris! Such yum. I went out to a local group that I go to first Thursday of the month and he went out to something with his musical theater group. Funny how we jump back into the regularly scheduled programming.
Friday I went shopping for ingredients with J, as I had some orders to fill - for the cafe, the van and a friend who ordered cupcakes for her son's party. I managed to do all of my baking during J's nap, but it mean that B and M had to walk home by themselves because I had cake in the oven. Long walk with J to run errands while the older two had their piano lesson. A bit of drama in the evening (I *will* write about it in a more private post) but it all ended well.
Saturday I took M and J into town for the cake drop. leaving the (relatively) quiet and easy B to keep D company. Back home in time for lunch, followed by J's nap. I iced the cupcakes, making a huge mistake as I misrad the email. Basically, it was a Star Wars-themed party and the cupcakes were to be arranged in the shape of a lightsaber. A few were supposed to be silver and the rest in bright blue or red. I got it completely wrong - a few in blue and the rest in silver and didn't realize it until M, who walked to my friend's house with me, made a comment about how it wouldn't be much of a lightsaber. Anyway, she wasn't angry and it all ended well.
Sunday passed in a blur of removing pictures and filling holes and generally patching up. Also managed to do some packing, mostly books.
On Monday D and I drove down to London with J to attend my friend C's stonesetting. Her husband, son and daughter (AK) were happy to see us there. D sort of hung around behind with J as people were a bit weird about babies being in a cemetery. I did manage to meet AK's new boyfriend and we had some nice squeezy hugs - she seemed really happy to see me. I also managed a quick chat with her aunt (C's sister who flew in for this), who hugged me and made me feel really good about being there for AK. The funny thing is, this is the first I've seen of her since January. But I have been in touch with her fairly regularly and that's something.
We managed to get back in time for the school run. Around 4 or so, D reminded me that we were meant to host a couchsurfer for two nights. I ended up cooking a pretty decent dinner (he was told to come at 6). Turns out he's going to be D's PhD student until his official supervisor's maternity leave ends. D was out that evening and I was going to do some painting downstairs and he mostly stayed out of my way. We did manage to get him out of the house on Tuesday morning (he was meant to be looking for a permanent place to live) so that I could get on with my usual stuff. Did some errands with J but decided to leave baking for the evening. D was out (again) and I got on with what I had to do. He did come down at some point but mostly stayed upstairs in the study. The kids were fascinated and kept referring to him as "that guy" and waiting for him to emerge from his room. We did have a little incident before bedtime where the bathroom door wasn't exactly shut and I walked in to find him on the throne with his pants around his ankles. Yeah, embarrassing :-/
The couchsurfer left this morning and we all managed to get out of the house in time. Work for me till it was time to pick up the kids, then collected everyone in the rain (grr). Finally remembered to pay for swimming for M (the Year 4 kids go once a week to the local pool) and got everyone home. B had a long, drawn out hissyfit about pretty much everything, so I took M and J to run a few errands and eventually returned home to find B calm and happy. D is out (yet again) tonight, so I guess I'll do some more painting before reading bits of Samuel Pepys' diary - our book this month is historical, the meeting is tomorrow night, I"ve had the book out of the library for months and haven't even opened it yet....
