Having a radar detector in your car is almost like wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle -- you feel safer so you do dumber things that you think you may get away with. Mind you, in the 3+ years I've driven with a radar detector, I've learned that radar detectors work best when you COMBINE the fear of police/tickets with a radar detector telling you a cop's spraying cars in your area... most of the time (i.e., Pinecrest, Coral Gables, South Miami, FHP, etc.) I pick up the cops from over a mile away... plenty of time/distance for me to slow down and switch off my video screen. Does that mean I drive around at 90mph? Please. You've seen my driving record... another ticket is the last thing I need.

I gotta admit it though, through proper use with a healthy dose of paranoia, my radar detector's saved my life multiple times.
