We survived todays 5.4 magnitude quake pretty well. Freaked me out when it hit while I was at work, Dina was out driving but still felt it. She was MUCH closer (less than 10 miles) from the epicenter hading home from our realtor's office in Covina. In Pasadena at work we still felt is pretty strong considering it's 20-25 miles from the epicenter. We all dove under our desks, but didn't evacuate the building as we figured it safer inside than outside where glass could get us. The building across the street from mine had a large glass window break out from the quake. And when Dina got home about 15-20 minutes after it hit, she noticed that A LOT of water had splashed out of the two aquariums we have. I had her check that first as i feared the 30 gallon one might have fallen over since the stand isn't anchored to the wall yet like I've been planning to do just for that purpose. In our bedroom she said all the drawers to our dresser and nightstands were open and the dresser was tilting forward from the weight of the open drawers. No damage to anything though, so that's good! Still pretty scary times considering we haven't had a quake this size in LA for 14 years since Northridge back in 1994. The crappy part about today was the phone network here. I was on the phone with Dina when it hit, so she felt it almost after I did (by like 2 seconds) when she had come to a stop at a light. But then I called up my parents to tell them about it as they are on their way home from Seattle driving down. Then when I tried to call Dina back, I couldn't All the cell networks and even land lines here were all jammed up from EVERYONE and their mom trying to make phone calls. =/ Crazy how this 5.4 magnitude quake causes minimal damage here, yet total devistation if hit on the other side of the world.
