This is for the villains fanmix challenge over at cards_wild. I ended up making two mixes, one for Melkor and one for Sauron. I've included both zip and 8-track links.
So, as soon as I saw the theme, I knew I had to do either Morgoth or Sauron. I’ve been reading the Silmarillion for the first time and obsessing over fanfics featuring these two. And, because I always get obsessive about fanmixes, I did both and made them super long. These are really two mixes that connect together. I think I managed to capture the creepy vibe I was going for. I used fanart for both covers to keep it fair. Sauron’s cover is his Annatar form that he used to trick the elves into making the rings of power because the art is pretty and very close to my mental picture.
Began as Melkor, the strongest of the Valar. He longed to control and corrupt and to recreate the world in his own image. He could not create things, but only corrupt. He formed the orcs, dragons, balrogs, and other creatures of darkness through torture and other dark means. Called Morgoth, Dark Foe of the World, he fought and corrupted until he was thrown into the Void by the other Valar. Basically, if you’ve only seen the movies, he’s the Middle Earth version of the devil and the master of Sauron who is long gone by the time of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. He is the greatest evil, and all of Sauron’s evil was only ever a lesser copy of his master’s work. I tried to give this one a bit more epically evil feel. And while creating it, I discovered the existence of metal inspired by Tolkien and Morgoth. So there are a few tracks of that here.

Once Morgoth was thrown into the Void by the Valar, he began his own path as Dark Lord continuing the work of his master. I tried to capture the range from being a servant of Morgoth to a Dark Lord in his own right.
