Well, this was a new years to forget.

Slept right through it. Went to bed at 7 pm, woke at about 9 am. But, hey, I apparently needed the sleep. I've been shortchanging myself on it for about a week now, and it caught up when I needed one more day. I guess I'm getting old =P.

However, the past week has also been a blast, all in all. Got a lot of fancy clothes as per my Xmas gift from the folks, but cashed in the day after Christmas due to the sales. Dropped Mike and Terra off at the airport. Picked out colors for the quilt Mom's making me -- as usual her eyes went all buggy at the initial selection and then once it all came together she liked it. Tried getting a new cell phone, only to realize we'd all save a lot of money if we waited a month. So... I'm cell phone-less until then -_-. Granted, didn't use it that much, but I lost all my contacts. And that sucks.

Went to Strake for a few days, too. And several of us oldies are psychic, too. Matt Rad showed up a day early, granted, but the night I came in was also the night Luce and Joey came in, too. Meixell showed up the next morning. And like always it was tough to not linger around. Hit up the Grand Lake Dining Hall first, complete with two extensions in both flooring and roofing, so tra la la no more big white POS tent! Performed a skit with CJ, Jill, and Rachel, and otherwise acted like a pirate for a bit. Found Derby while he was pissing behind the admin and have fun jolting him, and then hung out at Pat's place for the evening. Caught up with all the crew there, and ended up drinking out on Pat's back patio until about 3 or so with Joey.

Pat had a big laugh the next morning with the random beer bottles scattered around his place and myself crashed out on the floor with JoJo on the couch. The work was pretty much non-existant -- we were just 'on call' most of the time. All the part-timers paired off to assigned tasks, while the oldie crew just all crammed into Pat's truck and drove around the camp. Good times. A pine tree fell smack-dab on my beloved Nature Shack, whose only mark is a rectangle of dead grass. Rachel dealt the final blow to the delapidated thing. There's a new 100+ ft rifle range off in cubworld, and all the underbrush in East Wing has been cleared, complete with a reclaiming of campsite 18 from Nature's grasp. I can see 18 from Kuster. That's sad.

Came home that afternoon to shower and otherwise cleanup for Dad's birthday -- went out to eat and hung out in the evening. When the parents went back to bed I headed back to camp; a big storm was rolling in, and I wanted to play badass hero. Of course, the hardest rain occurred on the way there, and Strake saw a few drops at most. I was dissappointed. Watched the Minn/Tech game, though -- good entertainment for the evening. Crashed out at midnight to her a bunch of younger staffers out on Pat's lawn, so after shaking my fist at them for a bit we all met up and chilled for a bit. Matt got called a diamond patroller, but Wilke, Cameron, and Washington were all there, too.

Woke up to Pat's computer blaring revellie (?) ON LOOP in classic Boy Scout fashion. Staggered up and changed it to a Gregorian chant, lowered the volume by a lot, and went back to bed ^_^. Messed around a bit in the yard and headed out at lunchtime.

Next morning went to the Texans game with Luce, a teacher/coach/coworker of his, and a friend of said guy. Sucked, because neither team had the concept of an offense, but was good enough all the same. Came home, lounged around the house, ate dinner, and then crashed the hell out. I know I missed probably a great time for new years with people I rarely get to see, but, eh, it happens. Also, because I didn't get a chance to post it last night, a piney new year's eve song.

Five Iron Frenzy - New Years Eve

It's New Years Eve and I'm full of empty promises,
I half pretend to keep this time, just like last year.
The band is loud and I'm wandering the shadows,
wishing I was never here.
I persevere.
A crowded room, these whitewashed tombs,
they raise their glasses high, they kiss the past goodbye.

This New Years Eve, I'm waiting for tomorrow.
My heart is on my sleeve,
and yes I still believe, this New Years Eve,
will turn out better than before,
I'm holding on, still holding out,
until they close the door... on me.

It's New Years Eve and I feel my insecurities,
are haunting me like ghosts, this sinking quicksand.
And then with thunderous praise and lofty adoration,
a second passes by, yet nothing changes.
I hate my skin, this grave I'm standing in.
Another change of years, and I wish I wasn't here.

A year goes by and I'm staring at my watch again,
and I dig deep this time,
for something greater than I've ever been,
life to ancient wineskins.
And I was blind but now I see.

This New Years Eve, something must change me inside,
I'm crooked and misguided, and tired of being tired.
This New Years Eve, I'm waiting for tomorrow.
My heart is on my sleeve, and yes I still believe in you.
