20,251 steps . . .

Last weekend I wrote about my new pedometer. Well, yesterday gina-fischer and dr_kromm helped me put the pedometer through its paces. 20,251 steps -- which translates to 162 minutes of walking, 6.71 miles, and 579.8 calories burned -- for the day. Where did those steps take us?

We started out at the farmers' market, just wandering the stalls and tasting a few different things. From there we moved on to Mt. Bonnell, a place where they decided to mix safety with non-safety (in some places they prevented you from tumbling over the edge while other places allowed me to walk down a little too far).

After that we went downtown in search of Gomi but, no matter where we looked, the store was gone. So, without much discussion, we settled on walking the eleven or so blocks to the Texas Chili Parlor for lunch. Yum! gina-fischer and I had never been to the place before but it turned out great. I had chili and potato and the meal was excellent. A quick walk back to the car and we were ready to drive over to . . .

Lowbrow Emporium, an Austin store with art, weird toys, skate stuff, and whatever else the owner wants to sell. I grabbed a few issues of Clutter Magazine and learned that Gomi (remember, the store we were searching for downtown) was closed.

Next stop was a drive over to South Congress so that we could wander through Monkey See, Monkey Do and then hit Big Top (where we saw a 9.25 lb. Crunch bar for $100, but they were willing to sell it to us for $60 . . . we passed) to explore the candy options.

After all of that it was about 3 so we went back home so that dr_kromm and I could get ready for a dinner meeting with Steve. The rest of the evening went fine, and even though I-35 was closed down when we headed back to the house at about 10 pm we got home quickly and safely.

This morning it's time to pack. gina-fischer is dropping me and dr_kromm off at the airport; Sean's headed home and I'm off on a trip for work. I'll be back home Tuesday night.
