Almost a full 9 hours of layout, with a few breaks here and there, is tiring. It has been several years since I worked on layout at this pace for this length of time. Another hour or two and I'm done for the day.

Sure. I managed to complete the rough layout on the first eight chapters of the book yesterday. With luck, and pain, I should finish the rough layout on the rest of the book today.
