I'm a little overdue for season six's Metallicar Mix. But since I did make one (I usually compile them over the course of the season, then make edits as necessary at the end), here it is.
This Metallicar Mix is a collection of songs used in Supernatural during season six with additional non-canon hard rock and classic rock songs to fill out the empty spaces.
Basically, if you're not into SPN, it's a long-ass rock mix with - this year - a few bits of R&B/soul, one country song, and a few western instrumentals thrown in.
The tracks follow a chronological progression, from the first episode of the season up to 6.22. So, spoilers.

(Because I haven't included it on a Metallicar Mix since season one and it's the unofficial theme song for Show and maybe there's one person in the fandom who doesn't have it yet.)
Why each song was chosen:
1. Mark Lanegan - Don't Forget Me
Transition song between S5 and S6. The lyrics read like guidelines for domesticated Dean from departed Sam:
And when you're alone please take care / Don't go walking after dark / Shine a light behind the stair / Remember what might be in there
2. Bob Seger - Beautiful Loser
Plays over the opening montage of 6.01, "Exile On Main St."
3. Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
Plays when Dean readies the Impala for the road at the end of 6.02, "Two And A Half Men."
4. A Perfect Circle - The Noose
For Balthazar, but also prescient lyrics for Castiel in 6.03, "The Third Man": With your halo slipping down
5. Kenny Rogers - The Gambler
Plays in 6.04, "Weekend At Bobby's."
6. Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead
Plays at the club during 6.05, "Live Free Or Twihard."
7. Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze
Also for 6.05, when Dean has the trippy vision from the Alpha vampire. Also, possibly, maybe for the purple prose in the Twilight novels referenced in the episode.
8. Matthew Sweet - Ugly Truth Rock
For 6.06, "You Can't Handle The Truth." Self-explanatory, see titles.
9. Big Star - O My Soul
In 6.07, "Family Matters," we find out about Sam's soullessness. Also, the nature of a soul, a recurring theme throughout the rest of the season, is brought up for the first time.
10. Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
For 6.08, "All Dogs Go To Heaven," for the obvious reason. But also, it's a song about a woman and relationship woes, which applies to both the Dean/Lisa and the Lucky/Mandy storylines.
11. David Bowie - Space Oddity
Plays leading up to the memorable fairy-nuking scene in 6.09, "Clap Your Hands If You Believe."
12. Soundgarden - Rusty Cage
For 6.10, "Caged Heat." Another obvious choice. Also the manic tempo of the song suits the frenzied action of the episode, as does the violent imagery in the lyrics.
13. Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls
A song about inescapable death seems appropriate for 6.11, "Appointment In Samarra," in which Dean tries to break Death's rules and loses.
14. The Beatles - Doctor Robert
The name of Robert Englund's character, the doctor who induces Dean's temporary death in 6.11.
15. Kansas - Dust In The Wind
Dean quotes lyrics from this song in 6.11 in an attempt to comfort the man who dies of a heart attack.
16. Aerosmith - Back In the Saddle
Plays during the "Road So Far" recap of 6.12, "Like A Virgin."
17. Jethro Tull - A New Day Yesterday
Plays in the Impala during 6.12 while the boys talk about Dean's failed attempt at a "normal life."
18. Metallica - The Unforgiven
Since 6.13 is called "Unforgiven," I'm sure you can see where this is going....
19. Nazareth - Love Hurts
Plays in 6.14, "Mannequin 3: The Reckoning."
20. The Beatles - Act Naturally
I couldn't resist using this one for 6.15, "The French Mistake," what with Sam and Dean's impressive acting skills.
21. The Rolling Stones - Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing In The Shadow?
For 6.16, "... And Then There Were None," when Dean, Sam, Bobby and Rufus follow the trail of Eve, Mother of All.
22. Blondie - One Way Or Another
Plays during 6.17, "My Heart Will Go On," during the montage wherein Sam and Dean are on the verge of death everywhere they go.
23. Led Zeppelin - Gallows Pole
For the hanging of Elias Finch toward the beginning of of 6.18, "Frontierland." Also, these lyrics seem fitting: Brother, I brought you some silver, yeah. / I brought a little gold, I brought a little of everything
24. Federale - Reprise
25. Federale - Hero
26. Federale - Requiem
All three of the above tracks are featured in 6.18.
27. Screaming Trees - Dime Western
One more song for 6.18. What can I say? It's one of my favorite episodes of the series. Also this applies to the Winchesters' time travel adventures: I've been where you never been / I've seen what you've never seen
28. Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing
Plays during 6.19, "Mommy Dearest."
29. Jefferson Starship- Miracles
Comes on the jukebox as Castiel meets up with Crowley at the end of 6.19. And, of course, Jefferson Starships is the name Dean makes up for the new hybrid monsters.
30. Billy Paul - Me and Mrs. Jones
Plays over the Crowley torture/autopsy scene in 6.20, "The Man Who Would Be King."
31. Johann Strauss - Blue Danube Waltz
The music piped in over the speakers while people wait in line in Hell, in 6.20.
32. The Clique- Superman
In 6.20, Castiel gives himself away by echoing a Superman reference that Dean had made earlier while Castiel was eavesdropping. The song's lyrics mirror Castiel's hubris.
33. The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
Title of 6.21.
34. The Undisputed Truth - Smiling Faces Sometimes
Plays when Castiel confronts Crowley about kidnapping Lisa and Ben in 6.21.
35. The Rolling Stones - Play With Fire
Plays while Sam is unconscious in 6.22, "The Man Who Knew Too Much."
36. The Allman Brothers Band - Whipping Post
For 6.22. The chorus could be Dean and Sam's unofficial mantra. But specifically for this episode, I chose it to represent Sam's internal struggles after Cas removed the wall that Death put up when he re-souled him.
37. David Bowie - Soul Love
Another for 6.22 and Sam's soul issues as well as Castiel's absorption of all the souls in Purgatory. The lyrics could also speak of Castiel's misguided ways: All I have is my love of love / and love is not loving.
38. Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Blinded By the Light
One final song for the WTF note on which S6 ended. I have no idea what this song is actually about, but if anyone's been "blinded by the light," it's Cas. And hopefully a positive note for Sam and Dean next season, that they're "gonna make it through the night."
