Yeah, yeah on ALL you said, even if I still LOVED it like whoa, but yeah;)
Also, I LOVE Marton Csokas. Have you watched Broken English? That's the first movie I ever watched him in, and though he plays a HUGE asshole, I recognized his talent. And it didn't hurt that he looked FINE as all hell, AND that the movie is AMAZING and one of my faves. TOTALLY rec it:)
Hee, it figures I would make a mistake like that though. *g* I'm thinking of trying to go before work on Friday. If not then, maybe next week. Ack, stupid bloody weather! I hope you're able to see it again, hon, if you haven't already (or make it a third time -- why not? ;)).
LOL That's too funny. Theaters need to differentiate between the two a little better. Bright neon signs flashing "2D" or "3D" might work. *g*
Elijah Wood... if he was attacked by a pack of wild clowns
Now there's an idea for a movie!
I'm glad you felt the names were mumbled too; I worried that my hearing and/or the theater's audio wasn't up to par. Odd. Why go to the trouble of making up names (unless pulled from any notes Carroll had) and then essentially throw them away with no explanation and poor delivery? Odd.
I thought the ending was unrealistic
You know, I think it was unrealistic as well -- in the sense that Alice's independence would not be met with such acceptance (or, at least, allowance) during the period. Plus, getting to speak her mind... too easy. (Same with the beheading of the Jabberwocky. Seemed too easy.)
I enjoyed reading your thoughts as well. Thanks for sharing! :)
I loved reading your thoughts on Alice in Wonderland! I feel pretty much exactly the same way as you do. I enjoyed it, but was underwhelmed, and felt that the film should have been more epic. Your review was quite a treat to read -- even your reviews read like fine prose. :)
And yes, Pat and I totally thought of LOTR in some scenes too! Especially during the scene where The White Queen is talking to Alice on the balcony. Pat leaned over and asked me, "Where's Gandalf and Pippin?" Hee. ;) Pat also thought that the dude with the heart-shaped eye patch (forgive my lapse of memory at 3:30am -- the Knave, was it?) reminded him of Grima Wormtongue a bit.
There is one thing I have to disagree on -- I loved the Mad Hatter's dance. :] I thought it was a nice nod back to Burton works like Beetlejuice. Maybe it's because I miss the freshness of his work from those days (he seems to be doing more and more remakes these days than original material)? I dunno, but I laughed. But I think I'm in the minority, as mostly everyone else I know (

Aw, you're kind! I didn't expect to write that much about it, didn't realize I even had that much to say until it came tumbling out. I think I have to disagree about wanting it to be more epic... in the sense that "epic" makes me think of something grand and sprawling. IMHO, Tim should have made this much more intimate, quirkier (which we know he can do), a richer, denser world as befits the original story.
LOL And I think Pat's onto something there. Definitely a bit of a resemblance between the Knave and Grima. The Knave's not as pasty and vile and simpering. But give Grima an eye patch, wash his hair and stand him up straight and the two could be brothers. ;)

I do too. Very, very much. And if he's still going ahead with Dark Shadows, it looks like he won't be breaking that pattern any time soon. I see what you mean. Maybe I would have liked it better if the music hadn't been so modern, clashing with the

Seriously, you're a brilliant writer. And I'm not just saying that because you're my friend and I adore you. I would seriously be a fan of your writing even if I didn't know you, and that's the honest truth. *hugs*
I guess I should have clarified what I meant by "epic" (my fault, I was tired when I posted that comment!)... I meant that more in terms of the battle at the end. It seemed like it was WAY too easy for Alice to defeat the Jabberwocky. All of that build up for a battle that lasts, what, five minutes? That was kind of disappointing. :/ It looked awesome, though. The card soldiers were pretty cool. I just wish it lasted longer, I guess. :/ I totally get what you mean about a richer, denser world feeling more true

Ah, okay, I see what you mean. Agreed that there should have been more challenge to that battle. Plus, I always get a bit twitchy when the destiny card is played... and it was played hard in that instance. I think it might have made more of an impact if she'd defeated the Jabberwocky for a reason other than it was written on a scroll and therefore must be. A real, hard-won battle, in which it at least appeared that she might fall at some point. But it was still cool and visually stunning.
I hate to say it, but as much as I love Tim and Johnny, I think they need a break from each other.
Seconded. It makes sense that they want to work with each other, being like-minded and knowing each other well and loving each other's work. But it's starting to seem like their each other's crutch. Time for some fresh blood in Tim's movies, and definitely some new, ORIGINAL material. Hollywood totally needs a moratorium on remakes!

I haven't seen Broken English, but I'll add it to my Netflix queue of doom. So true! Marton definitely is not hard on the eyes. ;)
