Happy Birthday, nutmeg3!! :D

I hope you had a wondrous day. If you didn't: here is a raincheck for another wondrous day to be cashed in a.s.a.p.

❀ On Thursday, I saw Alice In Wonderland. ( spoilery thoughts )

Aw, you're kind! I didn't expect to write that much about it, didn't realize I even had that much to say until it came tumbling out. I think I have to disagree about wanting it to be more epic... in the sense that "epic" makes me think of something grand and sprawling. IMHO, Tim should have made this much more intimate, quirkier (which we know he can do), a richer, denser world as befits the original story.

LOL And I think Pat's onto something there. Definitely a bit of a resemblance between the Knave and Grima. The Knave's not as pasty and vile and simpering. But give Grima an eye patch, wash his hair and stand him up straight and the two could be brothers. ;)

I miss the freshness of his work from those days (he seems to be doing more and more remakes these days than original material)

I do too. Very, very much. And if he's still going ahead with Dark Shadows, it looks like he won't be breaking that pattern any time soon. I see what you mean. Maybe I would have liked it better if the music hadn't been so modern, clashing with the (mostly) Victorian setting (in both the regular world and even Wonderland).

Seriously, you're a brilliant writer. And I'm not just saying that because you're my friend and I adore you. I would seriously be a fan of your writing even if I didn't know you, and that's the honest truth. *hugs*

I guess I should have clarified what I meant by "epic" (my fault, I was tired when I posted that comment!)... I meant that more in terms of the battle at the end. It seemed like it was WAY too easy for Alice to defeat the Jabberwocky. All of that build up for a battle that lasts, what, five minutes? That was kind of disappointing. :/ It looked awesome, though. The card soldiers were pretty cool. I just wish it lasted longer, I guess. :/ I totally get what you mean about a richer, denser world feeling more true.

Hee, I'll have to pass that on to Pat! :)

Yeah, the remakes are getting to be ridiculous (not just in Tim's case, but in Hollywood in general). I hate to say it, but as much as I love Tim and Johnny, I think they need a break from each other. I used to get so excited when I'd hear that Johnny and Tim would be working on a film together, and now it's almost expected. Sweeney Todd was AMAZING though, and their best work together since Edward Scissorhands imo. I just wish Tim would come up with some original material again, like Edward or Corpse Bride or Beetlejuice etc. That's where he shines.

Yeah, the music accompanying the Mad Hatter's dance was definitely jarring! I agree, he should have danced to some quirky and bouncy Victorian tune (perhaps on a harpsichord), not some weird remix sounding thing. ;)

Oh man, that's unbelievably generous of you. Thank you. *hugs tightly*

Ah, okay, I see what you mean. Agreed that there should have been more challenge to that battle. Plus, I always get a bit twitchy when the destiny card is played... and it was played hard in that instance. I think it might have made more of an impact if she'd defeated the Jabberwocky for a reason other than it was written on a scroll and therefore must be. A real, hard-won battle, in which it at least appeared that she might fall at some point. But it was still cool and visually stunning.

I hate to say it, but as much as I love Tim and Johnny, I think they need a break from each other.

Seconded. It makes sense that they want to work with each other, being like-minded and knowing each other well and loving each other's work. But it's starting to seem like their each other's crutch. Time for some fresh blood in Tim's movies, and definitely some new, ORIGINAL material. Hollywood totally needs a moratorium on remakes!
