Yay for Show being back!

Episode was compelling, with a nice balance of the funny and the creepy and the boys with their Issues. And the boys in fewer layers is never, ever, ever something I would complain about. (Although they still had layers in the hospital. Damn you, robes! *fist of shallow frustration*)

I'm very glad they acknowledged Ellen and Jo, if only briefly, and that we were at least told that Dean hasn't been handling it well. I'd like to have been shown more of that. Perhaps the argument could be made that we did see some of the after-effects of their deaths, but it was generally mixed in with all the boys' other problems, which could be dismissed with the wraith infection.

What about the other patients there? Did they improve afterward too?

Sam slicing a skull cap out of that corpse... wow, he has come a long way since "Bloodlust."

The boys' psychoses bounced all over the place. And wouldn't a sedated Sam just be near-comatose, not acting like he spent an evening with Cheech and Chong? Still, whatever, that was pretty damn adorable and funny. And the boop on the nose made my day (and struck me as very Jared-esque). Same for Dean pulling his pants down and... *pauses to enjoy the thought of Dean pulling his pants down* ... and yelling "pudding!" (Why does that make me think of Kathy Acker? Brain, you are a weird, weird lump of weirdness.)

When Dean was staggering down the hall with that hard glower on his face, did anyone else flash back to My Bloody Valentine 3D?

It's interesting to see the extremes of Jensen's acting: from super-subtle to very broad. I love watching the micro and macro of his style, and everything in between.

The thought of losing yourself, whether to a mental breakdown or Alzheimer's or something else, terrifies me. Likewise, it unsettled me to see the boys lose themselves in that way. I think they did a great job of creating a claustrophobic, disquieting atmosphere. And given that the road is the boys' home, it makes even more sense that, when things spiral out of control, it happens in a fixed setting where they can't move, can't get away (from themselves or anything else).

The wraith's spiky thing totally made me think of Signs.

So, let's see. Dean has daddy issues and Sam has anger issues. And they're codependent. Holy shit, y'all, did you know this?! What next, are they going to reveal that the boys are pretty?? 'Cause I won't believe it unless they work really hard to prove it. I suggest they start with shirtlessness and work their way down from there.

Shallow episode review is shallow.

In other news, have you ever stumbled upon something and wished you could backtrack, because it has really tilted your perception of things and you just don't know what to do with that? For better or worse. I'm experiencing a bit of that.
