So, I think my alternate Thursday night volunteer gig is in danger of being permanently canceled. :(
I can't directly assess the why of the situation, but I have to wonder if it has to do with the changes in the DCJCC's registration system and volunteer event marketing. Volunteer participation has dropped off. It used to sell out regularly, but now the volunteers are few and far between. This Thursday's session was canceled, and the organizers are meeting with DCJCC staff next week to figure things out.
I told the organizers I'd do whatever I could to personally market the event and recruit people to it. It is a GREAT volunteer opportunity. Twice a month, we prepare meals for 500 people that are then distributed by DC Central Kitchen to organizations and individuals in need. Special attention is paid to make these meals nutritious, as well as delicious.
If anyone in the DC area is available to participate and keep this event running, I would greatly appreciate it!!! The next event is Thursday, June 19 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the DCJCC at 16th & Q.
