Smooth Transition So Far

For the past few (4?) years my desktop computer has actually been a laptop. I added an external monitor and a larger, easier to use, keyboard and mouse and had the best of both worlds where I could just disconnect a couple of things and take my entire software environment with me when I wanted to go someplace.

Then my Windows PC died and I decided to go as close to all-Mac as possible. That meant adding a 7-port USB hub, a couple of large-ish external drives and my audio interface to the setup. At that point, it took something like being away from home for multiple days to convince me to disconnect the pieces.

Thursday, I got a Mac Mini that is now the center of all those wires. The Migration Assistant did a reasonable job of cloning my old account and third-party software, except for the part where it claimed there was 4231 terabytes of data in my development directory. (I write code. I don't write that much code. Nobody writes that much code.) I was a bit nervous about whether all my Native Instruments software would activate correctly on the new system since NI has a bad reputation concerning their copy protection but it seems to have worked...I launched Kontakt and it made sounds. *shrug*

A solid state drive and 16GB of main memory make this thing rather quick. I look forward to seeing how my various bits of music software react to a many-fold resource increase.

According to plan, I also have an easy-to-grab laptop again, which is currently being introduced to a beta version of the OS.
