Just in case you don’t get it, there are a couple of ‘inside jokes’ in here. First, Judd Hirsh, of course, played both Alex Reiger and Alan Eppes. This was referenced in an episode of Numb3rs where the Taxi theme played at the end. Second, Alan Alda did play Arnold Vinick in the last two seasons of The West Wing. Since we don’t have a reference as to what political world Numb3rs inhabits (ie is Bush their president or some made up dude named, I don’t know, Tree), I decided to make them live in the sphere of The West Wing. I’m about 87.3% sure that if that was true then Vinick would have been their Senator before quitting to run for Prez.

Side note for the truly geeky like me: Did you know that The West Wing character of Josh Lyman was based on Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Peirce? Supposedly, he is, but I’m not sure that Sorkin has ever publically acknowledged that. However, Josh’s break down in “Noel” is amazingly similar - like down to the style of flashbacks - to Hawkeye’s breakdown in “Goodbye, Farewell, Amen.”Finally, I had
