I've said before that if I were in Zack Snyder's shoes, I would pointedly refuse to do a faithful adaptation of Watchmen.
What I don't always explain is that I'd prefer to make total hash of it as a thumb in the eye to Alan "I'll make Kid Marvelman a psycho killer" Moore. He, who made a career out of rehashing, retconning, & generally pissing on others' work, has it coming. So I would make a point of taking every theme in the book, & turning it upside down.
The Minutemen: An actual group of superhumans in a Golden Age of heroism.
Silk Spectre: The last of the superheroes, born before the appearance of...
Dr. Manhattan: Ended the the Age of Wonder & Heroism; no one with superpowers has been born since he manifested. (This may be because his appearance was a sort of "White Event" with effects that spilled backwards in time.)
Rorschach: A living inkblot, a spirit whom you see as the most fearsome vigilante you can imagine.
Ozymandias: The self-sacrificing hero of the piece. You will love him. Then read the book & hate that you love him.
It would have been a lot of fun.
But noooo, Zack Snyder had to go ahead & do a faithful adaptation! Punk.
Oh well, I had twenty years to do it & didn't, so it's my own fault.
