Return of the Jedi

I'm so glad to be home. Ireland and London are wonderful places, but my family is here in sunny Georgia. There is nothing like going to a different part of the world to make you fully appreciate your homeland. I rediscovered my love for America. And I have fallen in love with Europe and its people as well.

We watched The Revenge of the Sith in a funny theatre openning night in County Cork. I felt so sad that Anakin and Obi Wan had to say goodbye like that.

I also saw A Doll's House in the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, which left me in tears for the first time. A very powerfully moving play, I think it held special significance for me. It was a new translation and beautifully done. I have completely misunderstood and underestimated that story and Ibsen also. Amazing, it was upsetting and comforting to the greatest degree.

Ireland is breath-taking. I sat with my legs dangling off the cliffs on the Aran Islands with the salt water smell of the sea mixing with the sweet comic smell of cows in the pastures just behind me, and the ocean, which was a deep blue and turquoise, seemed to spread out forever. The sky was bright and there were a few white clouds, and sea-gulls caught the breeze and floated up eye-level. The wind blew around us and it was cold but so safe at the same time. It was really amazing.

The streets of Dublin and London are fun, they have stones and old buildings and the pubs are so colorful. Guiness tastes terrible, like oily shoe-leather. So do other beers, wine, and whiskey, and Irish coffee, and a whole host of other alcohols. However, a 'Mr. Jameson' is not too bad, so I suppose I favor vodka. Fruity drinks taste the best, but I reason that they are cheaper without the alcohol, so in the end, why bother? ;) The pubs with Irish music are the best to get lost in.
The Atlantic is a very cold ocean in which to take a dip, but invigorating.

I met Peter Pan and Oscar Wilde, and James Joyce. I hope I'll get to know that last him better in the future.

Can't wait for the pictures to develop.
