so...
i borrowed my friend jona's truck to get home last evening, but had to have it back by 9 this morning. which was nice because i had coffee with him and his wife, and helped w/ the kids breakfast. it really is a huge affair to feed a 4 year old and a 2 year old at the same time, as well as look after a 4 month old. they definitely have their hands full. when i walked up to the house the two boys were watching me through the window. the 2 year old, reuben, was standing in the window in just his diaper making faces at me, it was damn cute. when i came in the door he was hiding behind the curtain, so of course i said very LOUDLY, "where is reuben?" elijah, who is 4, replied, "he's in the curtain!"
to which my response was, obviously, "don't be silly, elijah, you can't fit reuben in a curtain. it's too thin!"
lijah countered with "he's right there, you can see his legs!!!"
and with great alarm, i exclaimed, "oh no, some one cut off reuben's legs and stuck them under the curtain!! where is the rest of reuben?"
howling and cackling from reuben while all of this was taking place. it's scary how much i take to these kids.
but back to the story at hand:
i called robbie, who sold me the bum car, and he came over to the job site where jona and i were drywalling, and we set off to replace the battery of the car, now properly grounded. the car started right up, ran fine, i went and had it insured.
then i went up to my parents house to do a final cleaning of the old truck before i completely turn it over to my father. so to a large degree, today was a landmark in that i'm completely independent of my parents, minus the money i owe for the truck, which will be sold soon.
i have my own place, my own phone, my own car (that thankfully i still haven't handed over the $1000 for), and today i got my own insurance policy. makes me feel damn old, i tell you.
anyhoo, i hung out @ my parents until the evening, and then headed down to the studio to finish up these mixes. i got half way there when the radio suspiciously cut out, and i began to lose the dash lights one by one. clearly an electrical failure. and sure enough, the car cut out on the highway.
so i pull over, checked all the connections, everything looks good. called robbie, but he was about to get up and speak at church, obviously couldn't leave, and i wouldn't want him to. robbie is an amazing christian in a way that i could never conceive of being, and that is part of what makes him a good friend, and a good businessman. aside from selling the occasional bum car.
so i called ric to tell him i would be late to the studio, and the old boy came straight out to pick me up. that made me feel quite nice.
just got back from finishing the mixes, borrowed jona's truck again.
i honestly am just completely amused at this situation. it's hilarious that we keep thinking the car is fine, and then OF COURSE it cuts out on the highway. what else did i think was going to happen?
and it shows what stunningly good people i have around me, that ric came right out to get me, and that jona of course lets me use the truck, and that robbie is infinitely more frustrated than i intend on being about this car. but at least he cares. if i had bought this from someone else, i would have already spent my money, and i would be taking them to court at this point.
yeah...
