Eclipse!

Oct 03, 2005 07:17

There's a partial solar eclipse today!

It starts about 8.45am and will last until 11.15am, with maximum eclipse being at around 10am - in Cardiff about 70% of the sun will be obscured, which may at least cast a strange light. Look at the shadows cast by leaves of trees, and narrow gaps in blinds and curtains, see if you can see the eclipse in the projected shadows.

Of course it helps if it's not cloudy.

See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4299074.stm for details.

In other news:

  • There's a town in Turkey called Batman. (There's a total eclipse in March 2006 - I was looking up the path of totality - which goes through Egypt, Turkey or Russia - a short trip could be entertaining).
  • Barry is a relatively pretty place at 4.30am, in a kind of futuristic industrial way - must get out there to take pictures of refineries or other big silver buildings that glow in the light of the moon. (Found this out when I took Kye to the airport in the small hours.)
