The poet William Butler Yeats once said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” And, indeed, by giving kids the knowledge and skills they need to succeed as adults, by urging them to pursue their dreams, and by impressing on them the joy that comes from a lifetime of learning, teachers can be virtually limitless in their capacity to touch lives.
I hope to bring that fire to each student in my classroom as I teach. I will teach them the skills they need to know to succeed academically, and the skills they will need to love themselves and others. I value sharing knowledge and look forward to transferring that information to students.
Words cannot express the impact teachers have made on my life since a very young age. I was inspired and delighted to learn everything I could from them because their enthusiasm and love of knowledge was contagious. I hope to bring that same enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge to my students.
I will also bring two decades of skills that I have learned in working in other fields besides education. I have learned the value of organization and time management as well as how to sell (in this case knowledge) to the reluctant consumer. Using those skills in the classroom will hopefully help me be a better teacher.
I have wanted to work with children for as long as I can remember. I didn’t always know I wanted to be a teacher but I think that my patience and open heart are well suited to my chosen career.
