Day 29: Words: 1082.
Will add up again and post final overall tally with Day 30.

Outside POV: Ruby. Post 3.07 (so spoilery), what is Ruby's next move?
Sam/Ruby. PG13.

Sam Winchester: the boy king, the chosen one, the pawn in her game, the blood-fed human. Ruby has the winning ticket with Sam. She’s teased him with enough information that he thinks she has the answers; enough information that he thinks she is useful to him, anyway, and that’s all she needs for now.

Ruby watches Sam from afar, careful to avoid his gaze. She's a flash of blonde hair in the corner of his eye, the whispers in the night. She can't make her next move too soon, for fear of rocking the careful balance she's worked so hard to maintain.

Ruby sees Sam’s boundaries coming down one by one, sees him shattering his limits, broadening his horizons as the only way he can get himself through. She needs those morals gone, she needs his edges hard and his game plan focused.

Ruby needs to nudge him down a path he doesn’t want to traverse. She waits for Sam to use the fixed Colt, hears that he killed the Crossroads Demon, which Ruby wasn’t exactly expecting. Hoping for, perhaps, as a small bonus. The cherry on the cake. She wasn’t sure he’d go that far. It thrills through her that he did, rumbles in her veins.

Gordon's death follows: necessary but bloodthirsty. Sam takes another step down the path with that, when he uses his bare hands and physical strength to do that deed. Feeling someone’s life die out of them, someone who used to be human, Ruby thinks that’s different to pulling the trigger of a gun, separated from the action by a safe distance.

Dean's softening, teaching Sam, and starting to listen to him some. Ruby worries where that may lead. She can’t have Sam becoming too mopey. She needs him angry, and that means keeping secrets from his brother, being frustrated by his actions. Their separation, Sam's determination to do what he thinks is best, even alone: that alone will help her cause.

Time for another visit, to shake Sam up, to push and prod him a little, to ensure the steps he takes are what she needs them to be. Ruby waits until Dean leaves Sam alone one night with his books and his worries.

No waiting for him to invite her in, to accept her. She knocks and as soon as the door opens a crack, saunters straight in, sucking on a lollipop, eyeing him up and down. "Missed me?" She gives the lollipop a long suck, stares him right in the eye.

Sam bristles, tensing his shoulders. He draws himself up to his full height, as if that will scare or intimidate her. As if standing over her helps him feel control in some way. Ruby lets him delude himself.

"What are you doing here?" His voice is low. He stands with his body angled toward the door. As if he feels that is enough of an escape. Foolish.

"I thought we could discuss what Britney's up to. Or what kind of shoes I should buy." She sucks the lollipop again, notes his eyes drop unwillingly to her mouth. She removes it, licks her lips and steps forward until she's within arm's reach, narrowing the gap. "Want some?"

Sam shakes his head. She holds it out further and he pushes her hand roughly, the lollipop clattering away, rolling out of sight. Sam's breathing heavily, his eyes flashing. She can taste the anger and disgust bubbling inside him like water on the boil.

"Tell me what you want. Give me answers or get out." Sam spits the words out, aims them to hurt her but they fall to the ground unnoticed.

"And here I thought you might have missed the sight of this body. I chose it for you." She cast her eyes down it, runs a hand from her breast to her hip, splays her hand out there, pointing her fingers toward her groin. "I chose it for you. Blonde, not too curvy." She flicks her eyes straight to his. "Or was the Crossroads demon more your type? Did I get it wrong? Of course, you did shoot her." She smiles slowly at Sam. He glowers, turns away and paces to the door. "Did me a favor. I never did like that bitch."

"It wasn't for you.”

"Ah now, don't be coy. Take the gratitude where it’s offered. Who knows what I might do for you." She makes the words as throaty as possible. Flirting.

"I couldn't let her live." Ruby sees the switch flip in Sam. He stalks back toward her, stops when they're almost touching, his chest an inch away from her tits. She has to tilt her head back to see his face. "What do you know about that? Do you know who has the contract?"

"I might have an idea." Ruby places a hand on Sam's chest, softening her voice. His body shakes, angry at the contact but he doesn't move. Doesn't want to give up any ground. "I will tell you Sam, promise. All in good time."

"When is a good time? When my brother’s dead?" Sam hits her hand away, grasping her wrist firmly and squeezing until she gasps from the pain.

Ruby laughs. "When you're ready. Cause this won't be easy Sam. Once we start, there's no going back."

The grip on her wrist lessens but he still keeps a loose hold. "Tell me."

"I need to know how far you’re willing to go. Down the rabbit hole. How much of the hunter inside you’re willing to become. How much blood you’re willing to shed. Demon? Human?" He drops her wrist, curling his face up in disgust. "Are you willing to keep secrets from Dean?" She lowers her voice to a soft whisper. "Would you fuck me, if it meant getting the answer? How much of yourself are you willing to prostitute, Sam?"

She moves swiftly, leaning up and pushing against his mouth with her lips, touching his lips gently with her tongue. His body stiffens, mouth slackening. The blood's pumping through him. There's anger there and sometime, when the time is right, that could twist and turn into whatever she wants. His hands come up and push her harshly away.

Ruby hits the floor hard.

Sam stands over her. "I won't play your game. Tell me what you want."

Ruby laughs, and pushes herself to a standing position. "I'll be in touch." She sashays out, feeling him watching her go.

Sam Winchester: Right where she wants him.
