Astronomy is awesome. We're learning about planets and constellations in geology right now, and I love it. Last week I looked up in the sky and saw the space station!!!! It looked like a star that was moving. Yeah. Then a couple days ago I saw another satellite, but I don't know if it was the ISS or not. This time I saw it enter the terminator and disappear from view.
Last week was good for viewing planets. You could see Venus, then Mars kinda dimly, then Saturn, then in the South, Jupiter. I learned that all the planets lie along the ecliptic, the path that the sun takes through the sky. Actually, it's the plane in space in which all the planets (except Pluto) orbit the sun. Man, this post is boring. I'm sorry. It's almost over, just bear with me.
And another thing: I was lying out in the sun one day, wearing sunglasses. I covered the sun with my hand and looked up, and saw a halo around the sun. It looked almost like a rainbow, except it was kinda brown. WAIT, it was brown because my sunglasses are brown. YEAH IT WAS A RAINBOW!! It was sooo weird. I've never seen a halo/rainbow thing encircling the sun. I tried to view it when my sunglasses were off but it was too bright. Oh yeah, there was a thin layer of clouds covering the sun-- that's what was refracting the light.
I'm not done yet. Sorry.
I want to get binoculars. A good pair. I want to see the binary system of Alcor and Mizar in Ursa Major (the Big Dipper). I want to see Jupiter's moons. I want to see the rings of Saturn, but you need a pretty expensive telescope to do that. I can't wait till winter when I can see Orion and see betelguese and whatever the one in Orion's ankle is . . . I forget. AND: I want to see the Nebula under Orion's belt, where you can see four tiny baby stars in a stellar nursery.
IT'S OVER NOW!! YOU'RE FREE!!!
