The network formerly known as "SciFi" is at it again.

Back when TNFKaSF announced the cancellation of "Stargate: SG1" during the wrap party for the 200th episode I was already hooked on "Battlestar Galactica". But I promised myself I wasn't going to pick up any new shows on TNFKaSF. That didn't last long. By the time TNFKaSF announced that they were not deigning to renew BSG and that they were going to hold the final episodes for a year, I was already in love with the town of "Eureka".

If you aren't already watching "Eureka", you really should give it a shot. It's generally a light and fluffy, summery show but there are messages and issues beneath the surface. The characters grow and the plots evolve and revolve without seeming tritely repetitious. Blundering sheriff in a town of geniuses not your preferred hero? There are plenty of other options: good girl, bad boy, nerd, geek, jock, smart mouthed side kick, though it's never just that simple. "Eureka" has a little something for everyone bundled in a sleek, high-quality package (even if some of the product placement was a bit absurd).

Unfortunately TNFKaSF is up to its old tricks. Less than a week after announcing that "Eureka" had been 'granted' a 6 episode 6th season to wrap up, it has announced that the show will be cancelled after the 5th season and there will be no extra 6. Which totally sucks because even though there are still 5 episodes left to air in S4, the final episode of S5 starts filming this week (Source: Wil Wheaton). I haven't been this worked up about a show issue since BSG and before that SG1 (given that NBC has actually done the right thing by Chuck). I guess it's time for me to face the fact that there are only 2 common threads here: myself and TNFKaSF. And there's only one thing left for me to do...

Dear "SyFy",

I'm sorry to have to do this in a letter, but we hardly ever see each other anymore and that's probably for the best. I'm breaking up with you. I wasn't happy with the way you handled the cancellation of "Stargate:SG1", but the show had been on the air for 10 seasons, a very long life by tv standards. I rolled my eyes when you added wrestling to your lineup, but was willing to give up one night a week of reruns if it allowed for the production of quality science fiction related programming on the other nights. I ignored the proliferation of "scifi" related reality shows. I mocked but accepted the name change. I came back for "Eureka" and "Sanctuary" after the "Battlestar Galactica" mess.

No more! I am tired of being dismissed, condescended to and ignored for the quick buck of fake reality. I know I'm just a single viewer and my habits aren't enough to cause even the slightest blip on your rating radar, but I can no longer ignore the slip-shod way in which your network is handled. I will watch "Eureka" and "Sanctuary" until the end, but I will no longer be tuning in for a single other show on your schedule.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but the fact that this year's fall schedule for the major networks has more (and probably better) scifi/paranormal/fantasy programming than that for the "Imagine Greater" network makes me think that I've made the right decision at the right time. You are no longer my only option and I intend to take advantage of that.

Have a nice life.
