Brief Update
Mike's been out of town for a few days now. He had to drive up to Texas to see his dad, who had a heart attack sometime late Monday night. He seems to be getting better now, they're even thinking they'll have him up for some brief walking around this afternoon, so that's progress.
I had wanted to get the house cleaned before Mike gets back, but I don't think I'm going to make it. I've made some progress, but I've also gotten side-tracked, trying to clean cabinets and stuff.
Yesterday (Thursday) I went on a field trip with Victoria's class to the State Capitol. It was actually pretty interesting. We spent the morning at a plantation home, which was interesting in some places, and boring as hell in others. Then off to the Capitol, where we got to see the House of Representatives actually convene and waste our state taxes, and then we got to go in to the Senate chambers, but they had already left for the weekend. In the tour, the guide tells us that in 1970-something there was an explosion in the Senate chambers. No one was killed, but the explosion did about a half million dollars worth of damage to the chambers. In the process of repairs, they found a pencil stuck in the ceiling (about forty feet up). They just left it there. We got pictures.
Then they showed us the hallway where Huey Long was shot, and showed the kids a bullet lodged in a column. They really remember that stuff.
