Steph had a lot on her mind as she patrolled the halls of the complex. She had long ago come to terms with the fact that Tim had moved on, at least she thought she had, and yet she still felt that awkwardness around him and Cissie. Cissie seemed to be a really nice girl and Tim had said that he and spoiler had had it out… but she was still Robin, and she wasn’t sure what had happened between them. To her, Steph and Tim were still together! Steph and Tim were inseparable! She wasn’t ready for Steph and Tim to be Cissie and Tim.
On top of that, Dick had been seriously injured and might have been a goner this time if it wasn’t for that weird doctor and Speedy-who-wasn’t Speedy anymore. She was still worrying about him as much as she was worrying about her love life. It wasn’t even like she could patrol Gotham to take her mind of everything thanks to the complex’s computer going haywire and locking everyone in! Something was up and it was making Steph seriously antsy.
There were too many criminals around. Not just small time ones, the masked ones, the big time. It was getting too dangerous with no room for them to run around and take out their frustrations on the shadowy people outside the complex. They were all cramped into this one building, lurking behind any possibly door and around every freaking corner. She never went plainclothes anymore. The mask was always on which was another thing to feel awkward about because now there were two robins at the same time.
She was starting to feel like extra baggage that Tim didn’t need. If only she knew what had happened between them… maybe she could fix it. And so she brooded as she walked, expecting the worst from the darkened corners of the complex. Her mind was racing with all sorts of issues a teen girl shouldn’t have to worry about. The one thing she did not expect to see when she turned a corner was herself.
The translucent figure standing in the middle of the hallway looked like a mirror image, if not a bit older looking with a lot more sadness in her blue eyes and no costume on. She was just wearing jeans and a tank top, though there was a black, shiny material sticking out of the bag slung over her shoulder. “Okay computer, what kind of trick are you pulling here?” The real Steph asked, not expecting an answer. The shadow version smiled and held out her left hand towards the other. Hesitantly, Robin did the same.
As soon as their hands touched, there was a bright light and Stephanie blacked out. Anyone in the vicinity would find her lying on the ground not in her Robin costume, but in the same jeans and tank top the shadowy figure had worn with the same bag over her shoulder containing the same cowl belonging to the current Batgirl.
