Footsteps had his attention as they rounded a corner. An unfamiliar and oddly clothed man came into view. Ashitaka stopped, his eyes on him, alert. "Ah, hello."

Determined Dexter had made a complete stop and showed the young man a casual smile. "Hello there. Nice day, isn't it?" Maybe it was not the best way to greet someone in an unusual place such as the Ring, but nothing else exactly came to mind.
Briefly stopping to say hello to this guy wasn't seen as a hindrance, not at all. Overall running into another new person wasn't necessary at this point, but he could multitask! Besides, making a new friend to help build his confidence when it came to coming back to the Ring would be good for him. To stay open minded and try to make do with anyone and anything around him was something he did on daily basis, to remain to appear "normal".
Nothing wrong here! Dexter's just a regular guy, somebody most wouldn't think twice about. That's right ( ... )

He wanted to remain busy in any way that was helpful but for the time being he had come into nothing. Between training with Dick and being outside there was... well, more of the same. Well, there was the odd newcomer he helped around the complex, to the best of his abilities. Perhaps this man was one of them?
"Ah, have you been here very long?"

He spoke after the next string of information was given. "How can you tell? They might be much stronger than you think, but much agreed, the Transporter Room is indeed that way. I don't know what kind of luck you will find with ti but it is worth a try." he prodded at the hint of a joke but was all serious afterward. He turned and walked the way the man had correctly rattled off on his own, he would lead him to the room in question and perhaps stay until he successfully disappeared, if that happened. He had been thinking about attempting the same thing, but something told him such a means was too easy and destined not to be fruitful.

"You don't know my sister," he said, jokingly. "She likes to get violent and pissed at me whenever we can't seem to keep in touch with each other within over twenty-four hours." If Debs had the whole chakram and leather outfit, she would be like Xena: the Warrior Princess.
Mild Mannered Dexter kept up his end of the conversation as they reached the corridor's intersection. "I'm Dexter, by the way. What's your name?"

There were three directions laid before them; left, right, and forward. Upon memorizing what he's seen of this section on a map panel, he pointed to the left turn. "We go this way, I think."

"You know how to use those 'holomaps'?" unknown to Dexter, certainly, Ashitaka had actually done a rather nice job remembering a technical term. He was more than technologically illiterate, having never even begun to start that age in his own world. His home had only oxen, wagon trains, paper maps, and scout guides to assist them. This whole subject of 'machines' and such were far beyond him. Yet he was still ready to attempt to trust one... if this teleportation worked for Dexter... perhaps the Computer could send him home as well?

He paused and cued in a brow quirk. "Holomaps? ...Not quite, no. Just the maps on the wall panels so far."
On the inside he was hoping the transporter room would not fail him. It had better not. Otherwise, he'd have to turn around and take the long way up to where the Miami replica would be.
Okay now ol' boy; we should be coming close to the right room soon. He had stopped walking after counting the number of doors in his mind before reaching the destination. In opening the door, there was a platform in the center of the room, with a computer with a big monitor on a desk that was shoved up against the wall.
"This is the transporter room, correct," he asked Ashitaka. It never hurt to make sure before making any real actions. It was better to be safe than sorry.

He seemed both shifty and nervous, the prince couldn't help but be put on edge. He followed the man, waiting for his next move. There might be pictures of his home inside. How would he react...

He turned to the platform. What next? Was he supposed to step on it? Let's find out, hm? Explorer Dexter was certain that no harm would come to him, or Ashitaka. If it wanted them harmed, wouldn't it have already done so upon their arrival?
He wasn't sure on the younger man's behalf, but Dexter at times felt vulnerable in the Ring's complex. This was unknown territory, and for the computer to have found Dexter and brought him here... Ah yes, it was intimidating to think about.
In stepping upon the platform, a swirl of various liquid color for a portal opened before him. The swirling reminded him of someone stirring paint a little to get his paintbrush covered.
"Well, look at that," he said, easily acting furthermore surprised upon his convincing performance.

"It's incredible." The prince responded still looking at the screen where Dexter had been sitting. he offered the blue orb a few glances here and there, then stepped forward towards it.

With his right arm in the portal, he didn't feel any cool wetness of any kind. Instead, the result was rather the opposite--warm and breezy. Aha, only just one of the familiarities Dexter had missed from home. "Hm." How unorthodox-like... Never judge a portal by its appearance, he supposed.
He pulled his arm back out to see that nothing bad happened to it. The Paint Portal was just an odd looking gateway from the Ring to Miami. It didn't matter now if the portal looked like swirling paint, a hole into pitch blackness, or some floating mass of vomit. Most people would cringe or express disgust, but he of course wasn't most people. Hell, Dexter was going home! Finally ( ... )
