Battle North of Luxembourg: May 14th (Action Squence, part 1)

The demons have located us! We thought we had managed to isolate another on its own, but it was a trap! They wanted to get us away from camp, away from any weapons or provisions we had!

Luckily, Joey kept his gun just in case. I have never been much liked the modern weapon, but I was suddenly very thankful my firend had the foresight to bring one! He remained in his place to cover us as Varon and I tried to run back to camp. Being faster than any of them, I managed to make it with no problems. I grabbed my sword, turning my back for only a second. I heard a yelp and Varon was gone! Off to the side, broken tree branches suggested that he must have been taken by one of the flying demons from their camp. Dammit!

The horses, which had been tied up just north of our sleeping area, had now been freed. Beowulf was no where in sight. Dragonwind lay dead on his side, being eaten by a small, impish creature. It was possibly a servant of the demon horde. Odette whinnied and tugged at her retraints, either trying to get away or trying to kill the creature that killed the younger horse. I let an athame from my right forearm drop into my hand and threw it at the beast that killed my horse! Like an arrow, the athame pierced the creature's arm, sent it flying backwards, and pinned it to a tree. It struggled to get away, helplessly clawing at my dagger. Barely thinking, I walked to up to it and yanked out its other arm and both legs. No one harms anyone in my care! I left it pinned to the tree, bleeding and crying out in pain.

I pulled Odette loose and got on. Varon couldn't have gotten very far, so I followed the trail of broken branches for a ways until it lead me to the cliffs. I could just see Varon's form as a winged demon carried him across to another cliff. So much for sticking together! Varon appeared to be in more desperate peril than Joey was, so I quickly guided strong, sturdy Odette to find a way down the cliff. It may not have been very steep, but I did not have time to chance it.

Just as I found a gentler slope, a Reaver demon descended from the sky. This powerful creature's body was made of fire, and its face and hands made of molten rock! It roared at me, spooking my horse, which nearly forced me to the ground. I rode Odette away a few yards, then quickly tied her to a tree. I may need her later.

I kept my sword sheathed. Fighting this demon will require more magic than strength or speed. Creating a shield around us with the Aurimite, I attempted to conjure a stroke of lightening to destroy its head. It swung its hand down at me, distracting me long enough to miss. The Reaver kept trying to grab me. Okay, perhaps my speed was the answer after all! I ran around it, changing the temperature of the wind around me to ice cold. The heat mixed with the cool air, causing a small tornado to swirl around the Reaver. It appeared confused by my movements, but stronger as its flames were fanned.

The aurumite's affects strengthen my endurance against magic attacks. Good thing I can already control the temperature around me. I let it catch me and swallow me. From the inside, I charged up another lightening bolt, and shot it straight through its head. The fire dissipated around me, and the gold shield shattered. The heavy rock arms and armor shook the earth as they crashed to the ground.

I felt a bit drained from using so much power; lightening is very difficult to control and uses a lot of energy! I walked back to Odette to calm her. She's a good girl, but not used to demons.

Sharp, deep barking sounded in the distance. My heart stopped. The wolves were on the hunt! Ra's blood, they must be after one of my friends! I jumped back onto Odette and we took off at a fast gallop! I do not care if they are among the most powerful demons in existence! No one was going to take my friends away from me! No one!!
