No one expects, the Earthlink Aquisition!

Okay, so this doesn't have anything to do with Earthlink but... My company has been aquired! http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Patterson-Companies-Acquires-bw-13880515.html

Pros? Benefits. The benefits package is pretty 1337 and will save me some cash on insurance. Also, there is the potential to go elsewhere in the company at some point; if you know, my brains leek out my ears and I actually desire to leave my job.

Cons? I'm getting shafted on my vacation. At my current company employees over 5 years get three weeks of vacation and 6 sick days. With the new company, it's all PTO (Paid Time Off) but only employees over 8 years get 13.5 hours a month (which is the equivalent to 3 weeks vacation and 5 sick days. They get an extra holiday so it evens out there). Also, there's a section of the new employee handbook that implies two very bad things. One, you can be terminated for buying booze on your lunchbreak and storing it in your car while parked in the parking lot, or next to it on the street. Two, you can be terminated for buying booze and/or drinking it off hours. As well, there's a fairly draconian Outside Employment policy that directly counters a long held "option" that techs at my company used previously.

It will be interesting to see what happens. For the moment I'm cautiously optimistic.
