A couple of days ago, I noticed that one of my hamsters (Lemmiwinks) had rapidly gained weight. Or he was bloated. Something wasn't right.
He quickly became lethargic.
Today, he died. I held him for a few hours, while he drifted in and out of consciousness, and while he finally started gasping for breath. The spaces between breaths grew longer and longer, and then he died.
I only had him for a couple of months, but he was already 2 years old, which is old for a hamster (they usually don't live beyond the ages of 2 or 3).
RIP Lemmiwinks. He was a very cute, docile hamster. I wish he could have been my pet for a longer amount of time.
