We watched a movie in Challenging Oppressions called Killing Us Softly 3, and it talked about women's portrayals in the media, particularly in advertisements. How we are objectified, sexualized and categorized. I, being a larger woman myself, took particular interest (and frankly offense) in the fact that America's view on "attractive women" requires a woman to be stick thin, with medium sized perky breasts and no stretchmarks/ect.
5% of women in America look like that, and the other 95% DON'T!.
Even that 5% gets photoshopped to death before they even see the ad page.
Yes, these women are beautiful. But so is everyone else!
Here's what I want to see.
I want to see a photoshoot with large women. Hell, I want to see a NUDE photoshoot with large women. Since I Have an addiction to all things love and physically affectionate, I want to see a romantic, intimate photoshoot with a large woman as the star. I'm not talking about porno, because eww, no thanks. But I do think sex is beautiful, in its original state - when two people love each other.
Sex aside, a romantic photo shoot of two people in love. Kissing, cuddling, holding hands.
