I was thinking of doing a list of my favourite vids (for a while) but this seems easier. HOWEVER since I was SO unproductive this year, for various reasons, I'm also going to include the last two months of 2009.
First DateSafety DanceThe Day BeforeDon't Let Go The Coat(half-done vid Sleepyhead in here too, but since it wasn't finished it's discounted)
Don't Tell The CaptainGoldPure ImaginationI Wish I Was (Crazy) You see how unproductive I've been? Fourteen months, guys. Eight vids.
My favorite video this year (of my own):
I suspect either Gold or I Wish. Gold was a return to my early days when every vid I did was "Torchwood sucks and then you die", though it's more about the fucked up craziness of it with a strong theme of betrayal. And I Wish was just fun. Poor Ianto never gets picked to play basketball. :(
My least favourite video this year:
Difficult since because I did so few they were the ones I most wanted to do. I think, however, it might be Safety Dance, which is a little disappointing. I think it could have been smoother and less repetitive in terms of the clips used. I do like how it ends, and endings are one of my weaknesses, and I'm sort of amused by how often John shows up.
Most successful video:
First Date has the most comments though I'm inclined to put Don't Let Go The Coat ahead of it if only because Foxie actually paid fifty dollars (to charity) for it.
Video most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
The Day Before. Whether it was because it was Gwen/Rhys or because I'd stopped posting to comms or because it was posted around the holidays, it got almost no response. It's not my best or favourite vid and I could have got it out there more but it was a bit of a surprise.
Most fun video:
I Wish I Was (Crazy). I like when I take a break from the depressing shit and just do something ridiculous. The song was an epic earworm for me and I knew I could find enough video for it. The only trouble was my limited choice of effects, really. I also really enjoyed making Gold, though I had the same effects issues to some degree - I spent ages trying to find the best one that would look sort of like a comic book.
Video with single sexiest moment:
Don't Tell The Captain. That song has always been weirdly sexy to me anyway, but the part with "I even like the taste of my will caving in", splicing clips from Cyberwoman and TTLM just gets me.
Biggest vid fail:
Endings. I can't do endings for shit. It's where the weaknesses in most of my vids are.
Hardest video to make:
Don't Let Go The Coat. Since it wasn't a song I'd picked myself I didn't have that massive rush of inspiration so it was a lot more hard work than a headlong adrenalin trip, completely unlike the time I pushed out Half-Jack in six hours or something stupid like that.
Most unintentionally telling video:
I don't know!
Things I learned:
I think I got a lot better at segues and effects and technical aspects in general. Originally I was mostly working with emotion; I don't think I could have done The Coat when I was new to vidding because it didn't really click with me until it was nearly finished.
For 2011:
There are a few songs in my head I really want to get done. It's a matter of finding the time. I am ashamed to say I've been quite busy on World of Warcraft and it's hard to do both at once! Especially since they both use the laptop (due to the better processor) and I wouldn't want WoW running while working with video. I'm also a bit daunted by the clips I'll need for at least a couple of them because while I have quite a lot of Torchwood already clipped, I have much, much less of Dr Who and The Mentalist, and I'm going to have to pretty much work through the entire backlog of episodes for each collecting what I need.
