he used to be so awesome

It's Friday, and I'm bored, and JC has been giving too many interviews in which he says conflicting things and only reinforces my belief that he has absolutely no plans to release music anytime soon. So let's talk about it ( Read more... )

I dunno what the legal ramifications are when you leave a record company but I can't imagine they let him go without some stipulation.

I 'heard' that he wrote a whole new album that Jive could not claim any right to. Just like with Transcon, I think Jive was going to claim part copyright or ownership on anything JC released on another label so they'd get royalties even though JC was not on their label. I could understand if he did not want to deal with that bullshit. Earlier in the year when I heard that, I felt a bit better about such a long wait. But, I think the album has been done or near done for awhile. My feeling is there is something going on that he can't speak about... we know he's seen some offers and he's been considering them for awhile... maybe none are that attractive?

He's said he's looking for commercial success with this album and obviously he feels like that means having a label behind him to push the music. 2 singles off of Kate should have screamed up the charts and went nowhere. Radio stations didn't even have the single, which just makes NO sense. Labels send out the shittiest mess in hopes it will get spins, so that just makes no sense. I think if Jive had got behind the record he could have done well and released Kate and had some success. That is what I think he is looking for in a label.

I think Jive just didn't get their Justin clone they thought they were getting and didn't like Schizo and didn't like Kate and refused to support it.

I think you're right, and that's all true, however, I don't think he's ever said he's in it for commerical success, and if he is, then all his talk about music being his passion and blah blah blah is really meaningless. I don't know what's holding him back from releasing the stuff he's done post-JIVE on his own, independently, but whatever it is, it's very frustrating! I don't think, in the current industry climate, a label even exists that will support him fully in that way.

Actually, if he wants to be commercially successful, he should go to Europe and sign with a label there. They love pop music and Schizo did much better over there than it did in the US.

Exactly.

He should just leak the songs with Timbaland and Justin. :( I really want them, but he would never do that. :/ And if he tried, I bet none of his "friends" would know how to do it without getting caught. LOL

I wish he'd sign with Timbaland, if he had that opportunity. Look what Tim did for Nelly Furtado after she got dropped from her label and he signed her.
