3:30am on Wednesday, I woke up because Benjamin's breathing changed. He still sleeps in the pack-n-play in our room (THANK GOD!). I went over to his cribside and was terrified to see that he was having violent tremors on the right side of the body!! It was very strange because he was wide awake, alert, and smiled when he saw me, but his right eye, right side of his mouth, his tongue, and his right arm and leg were twitching and flailing. He couldn't swallow, so was drooling very much, and it must have been affecting his nostrils also because he was breathing as if he had a stuffed-up nose. We called 911 and were transported to the emergency room, where we had to wait a half hour for the doctor to see us (I understand that a man was coding down the hall, but MY BABY is sick!! a very mom moment). Five minutes before the doctor came into the room, the tremors stopped. They had lasted for 1 1/2 hours! They then admitted him into Children's Hospital here in Milwaukee.
Benjamin was ordered a CT scan, blood cultures, a MRI, and an EEG. We're still awaiting the results of the EEG, but everything else came back clean. That is fantastic because it rules out the very scary diagnoses like hemmoraging, tumors, or cancer. So, all we know now is that besides having a focal seizure, he is otherwise normal and healthy. The EEG should help us determine if this was a one time episode, or a potentially persistant condition.
My poor baby was a trooper through all of this, but I don't think I'll ever be able to sleep again! Everytime he moves, sighs, or snorts in his sleep, I'm jarred awake and spring to his cribside. I told Chris that Benjamin is staying in our room until he's 18. I don't know if I'd have noticed the breathing change through the monitor!
Please keep my baby in your prayers: thanksgiving for the results we have gotten and hope for the results we're still waiting on. Thank you!
