Try the disposable nappy liners, in combination with cloth (am I being evil in suggesting this?). Mum says she used them with us (yes, that long ago!) and they made the washing of nappies so much easier. They sell them in the supermarket, quite cheaply.

Apart from that, you didn't mention nappy buckets. Do you have them? If not, you'll need two BIG ones - I used one for pooey nappies and one for just wet nappies. Keeping the two types of nappies separate makes everything a lot easier. Make sure they have clip on lids that can't be removed by kids.

If you can, put up a second washing line, if you just have the one. I found I was always running out of washing line space. And yo'll need far more pegs than you ever thought possible!

I think I'll have to write a post about what I view as the pros and cons of disposable v cloth nappies on Cluttercut, now we're on the way out of nappies, sortof, finally, maybe. Nearly five years it has been, so I think I count as a Nappy Expert :-(

Good luck, and We Expect Photos! (not of the nappies, but of the bub!)

I have one nappy bucket - hadn't thought of separating the wet and the pooey nappies. Hopefully we'll manage to 'catch' most of the poos though - apparently the 'need to poo' signal tends to be clearer than the 'need to pee' signal. None of the nappy buckets I've seen had clip on lids, where did you get them?
We have only one line, but two clothes airers, so hopefully that will be enough? Can always buy another airer.

We got our nappy bucket (which we're STILL using!) from BabyCo at Highpoint, from memory. It's BIG, and has been excellent, with a flip lid that clips down.

Separating the two just means less work and everything is easier, especially as kids get a bit older, onto solids, and the poo becomes more solid (sorry to be graphic, but there it is). By separating the wee-ey from the pooey nappies, you use a lot less soaker (napisan, or whatever you're using) and generally save on washing and scrubbing as well, as the pooey ones don't contaminate those that are just wet. Worked for me.

I just found that I was always struggling for clothesline space, and and extra one would have been really useful. We even got to the stage where we had to dry stuff in the dryer, because we simply couldn't fit everything on the line, and didn't have room for another. I think the cost of an extra airer or two, and an extra line would be well worth it, in the aggro you'd save, especially if you intend to have a second child within the next year or two - having two kids in nappies at the same time is a killer for line space.
