(that's 17 weeks. Almost 18 now!)
Bridie is still utterly gorgeous. She's chubbed right up, after her slow start - got her weighed and measured on Tues and she's nearly at the 50th percentile for her age! (This is from under 10th percentile at 1 month.) Way to go, breastmilk! I've started dressing her in the many, many gorgeous 3-6month sized clothes we were given - we haven't had to go shopping for bigger clothes yet, I think her gifted wardrobe will do us till the next size up :) Though I have been picking up the occasional thing at op shops (like her current outfit: matching t-shirt and shorts with strawberries and ladybugs and butterflies and cherries and hearts and flowers. The top says 'love'. Shut up, it's really cute!)
She vocalises a LOT - 'cooing' doesn't really describe it now. She carries out long monologues directed at random objects. Instead of crying now, she grizzles if she thinks we're not paying her enough attention: kindof an 'ey yeh yeh' noise, or a single loud 'eh' which has the same context/meaning as 'oi'! She plays with sound; varying the pitch, the volume, the vowel. And she still talks to us, which is nice :)
She rolled back-to-front for the first time on Monday. No doubt she will soon figure out that she can chain together the acts of rolling back-to-front and front-to-back in order to get across the floor. At which point, our carpet is doomed. Oh well.
Having a little more success with the EC thing now I'm trying to make more of an effort (warm weather really helps). She won't go when held under the thighs over a sink or loo, but happily sits on (/half in!) her potty and wees on cue more often than not. So in the morning I get her out of her night nappy and we have 30-60 minutes of nappy free time; if I offer the potty every 10 min or so I can generally keep the cloth she's lying on dry :)
In the last month she's shown a lot more interest in toys; she reaches for them when they're at a distance, and if they're close she'll grab them and put them in her mouth. (Things like Daddy's hands, Mummy's glasses and plastic water bottles also count as toys, apparently.) She hasn't yet strung the two actions of 'reach for far toy' and 'put toy in mouth' together, which is interesting; apparently that comes during the next developmental leap, which is happening right now.
I bought 'the wonder weeks' which talks about what happens in baby's brain during the first year, and how they have particular 'fussy periods' at certain ages as they develop new skills. It's nice to know what's happening... I'd gotten used to this smiley little angel who was settling into a predictable rhythm (though the hot weather threw it off a bit), but lately I have a bub who wakes frequently during the night, is a fussy feeder during the day, won't go to sleep like she was doing, and bursts into tears for no apparent reason. In between bouts of refusing to eat or sleep, she's still smiley and gorgeous - as long as she's getting attention! But she did manage to be good for the MonUCS lunchtime concert yesterday, which was good.
Uh oh, waking from her nap! Gotta go!
