Summer before ninth grade. Quinn, Santana, Brittany, and most of their eighth grade class sit in a sprawling circle in Santana's back yard. They're playing spin the bottle. How typical.

The bottle spins... once, twice, three times before it lands between Quinn and Puck, as he's known now. Quinn rolls her eyes while Puck has to hide the hopeful look that had made itself plain on his face. Quinn slowly stands up and saunters across the circle towards him. She kneels in front of him, whispers, “close your eyes” before leaning in and pressing a soft kiss on his eager lips. She stands up again and returns to her seat, making sure the short skirt she's wearing gives him a good impression. Puck would kiss Finn before he'd admit that he isn't completely experienced in this area. In fact, his only kisses have come from past half drunken middle school games of spin the bottle.

The bottle spins again... once, twice, three times before it lands on, you guessed it, Santana. She gets up, her saunter across the circle is different than Quinns given the fact that she's still wearing her red bikini from the kids earlier time in the Lopez pool. Every eye is glued on her as she goes across the circle towards Finn, the tall, gawky, but still somehow popular guy she's known since kindergarten. His face is comedic as it shines with adoration, hope, and lust, all at the same time. Their kiss is cut short when Finn abruptly stands up and runs inside. Santana laughs, she's quite proud, as it is the first time she's had a guy do that because of her.

Ten minutes later, the game has progressed, leaving more and more kids red faced and sweating as they return to their seats. Next spin it lands on Brittany. Brittany, in the crowd, had ended up sitting across the circle from Santana and Quinn. Of course, the next spin of the bottle stops directly between Brittany and Santana. They'd already agreed that all spins counted and you had to kiss whoever the bottle landed on, no exceptions. Which of course led to , all of the guys on one side and the girls on the other, so this hadn't actually happened yet. Neither girl was sure what to think, they both sat still, neither one moving until Brittany suddenly stood, marched across the circle in her pink bikini, knelt in front of Santana, and kissed her. Hard. It was over as soon as it had begun but neither girl wanted it to be over. The entire circle by now had dissolved into whispers, giggles, and sexy suggestions from Puck. Santana took charge, moving away from her friend, she stood and declared in a loud voice that the party was over. Groans and complaints accompanied her words but she remained firm.

After the of their classmates had left, the three girls began cleaning the backyard, all avoiding each others eyes. When Santana inevitably quit, the other two followed her into the empty house and up to Santana's room. Once her nursery, it was painted a sunny yellow with white trim. Her bed, which was her parents old one, meaning it was queen-size, was covered in a white duvet. Pictures of the three girls adorned every surface. A desk in the corner held a brand new laptop from Santana's 14th birthday, the month before.

The girls dressed in their pajamas in silence, none bothering to go into the bathroom. Nothing they hadn't seen before. Santana put in a movie and they all climbed into bed. Santana in the middle and Quinn and Brittany on either side. Quinn fell asleep quickly, lightly snoring, just like she always had. Santana however, was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, trying to pretend that the warm body pressed close to hers on one side wasn’t there. “San?” Brittany whispered into the flickering light from the TV. “You awake?” Santana considered pretending to be asleep but.. “Yeah Britt?” Brittany didn't say anything more, just snuggled into Santana's side, her head nestled in the crook of her neck and one arm draped across her stomach. Santana smiled at the ceiling, bringing her hand up to twine in Brittany's hair. “I love you San”, Brittany whispered sleepily to her best friend.
