Nothing's the Way it's Supposed to Be

"Sometimes you lose things, and then you get them back..."

Back when I was a kid living in Virginia, I knew this girl named Autumn. She lived right across the street from me and from as early as I can remember we were best friends. We had so much in common...I was only a few days older than her, neither one of us had any brothers or sisters, we were both obsessed with music - the same kind of music, our personalities were exactly the same, we both sucked at math...you get the point. From the day I started Kindergarten up until I moved to Texas in the middle of fourth grade, there were maybe a handful of days that we didn't hang out. We tried to keep in touch but you know how that goes...

Now flash forward to nearly a decade later. I'm in Los Angeles, finishing up my freshman year of college and as I'm walking back to my dorm room after class one fateful day, I pass this girl that looks strikingly familiar. I turn to look back, she does the same and we both kind of just stare at each other for a minute. I honestly was in shock. That was easily one of the strangest moments of my life, and I've had a ton of strange moments.

We had our brief moment of small talk, but she was already late for a test and since we both lived on campus, we figured we'd run into each other again later. Well, that never happened. Ah, the drawbacks of going to school with 35,000 people...

Anyways, a couple of weeks later I was done with finals and went back "home" for the summer. I thought about that awkward encounter a few times but ultimately I just came to the realization that after all this time we were two completely different people. So instead of doing the stalker-esque thing of looking her up in the UCLA directory, I just left it alone.

Then today, instead of going straight to my car after I was done with classes, I went to go meetup with Mel to help her spruce up her room. Once again fate steps in, and as I walk by the student union I see Autumn talking on her cell phone. This time we're both free and you know what I found out? I'm completely retarded. I should've just gone with the stalker method because it was like we just picked up right where we left off nearly ten years ago. We hung out the entire day trying to catch up on everything - she even helped me decorate Mel's room. It was awesome.

I would go into more but it's late and I'm tired now. Neither one of us has class on Friday so we made plans to get coffee and do whatever. It's gonna rock.

I feel like I just got my best friend back. It's so unreal. I keep thinking this is all just a dream. Honestly, what are the odds of something like this actually happening? I'd calculate it, except I was never that good at math ;)
