I drove home from Berkeley at around 9pm yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that driving on the freeway this time is the perfect way to see multiple fireworks displays throughout the east and south Bay. Oh, here's a bunch of sparklers on the left, and there's some noisemakers on the right. There's something for everyone!
And going along at high speeds, with the car taking me from one amusement to another, I felt like I was at a do-it-yourself version of Disneyworld (or Epcot Center, for folks in the know ;) ). I was also surprised by just how many fireworks displays there are, throughout Oakland, Hayward, Fremont, and San Jose. Everyone was celebrating! On my way out from Berkeley, entire throngs of people were streaming over the 2 pedestrian bridges to get a good look at the fireworks over the bay.
A very nice drive home. I could have gone to one of these but instead I saw almost a dozen (purely by accident!) and got a little peak at a slice of life out here.
