Yesterday I attended a book-launch party at
Balticon for two authors, Tim W. Burke and Tom Doyle. Both authors did excellent readings.
Tim's book, The Flesh Sutra, is a deliciously macabre horror novel set in Victorian-era Boston. Parts of it will make your skin crawl, but in a good way. It's original, thought-provoking, and beautifully written, and the cover is a real standout!
Tom's book, American Craftsman, begins like a military thriller but then mixes in American history and urban fantasy. It's based on the premise that Poe and Hawthorne were writing thinly disguised nonfiction. Intriguing!
I can't wait to start reading!
