I'll be leaving my family at home for the Memorial Day weekend and venturing up on my own to
Balticon, the Baltimore area's regional annual science fiction and fantasy convention. This is a big convention with a lot of stuff going on! I'm a program participant and will be speaking on five different panels, all of them Sunday and Monday:
SUNDAY
9 a.m. - Children's and YA Horror & Dark Fantasy. Is the sub-genre going too far? Parents and young readers discuss.
4 p.m. - Who Did What To Whom, Where, When, and Why? Methods of keeping continuity straight for series and shared-world anthologies.
7 p.m. - Writing Real Children. How can authors realistically portray children in their writing, whether in YA or in adult works featuring young characters? What are the pitfalls to watch out for when writing a child character?
MONDAY
9 a.m. - Best Entry-Level Books To Recommend. What books would you recommend to a friend who has never read science fiction and fantasy and would like to try some?
10 a.m. - Potter-verse Holes. As much as we love them, the Harry Potter books have some logical inconsistencies and plot holes. This panel will discuss the parts we tend to ignore or overlook.
