Dairy Godmother is something of a local institution in Alexandria, and especially here in
my neighborhood of Del Ray. The place has gained a wide reputation in recent years, with visits from President Obama and his daughters and mentions in various newspapers and magazines. In fact, the seat of one chair has been painted with the inscription, "President Obama sat here."

I just wanted to add that the kids featured in the picture graduated from elementary school this week! (My son is the one in the green plaid shirt. That's Ms. Olvera, left, and Ms. Allen with them.) They all still love the Dairy Godmother.
