On a whim, I entered several photographs published on this blog into the
Virginia Press Women Communications Contest this year. Normally I would enter in one of the writing categories, but I hadn't had a book out in 2012, so I had nothing that was eligible that I wanted to enter.
When it comes to photography, I am strictly amateur. So I was surprised and pleased to receive an e-mail a few weeks ago saying I'd won something in the contest. And last weekend I attended the state conference and learned that I nearly swept the Photography category. I won First Place, Third Place, and Honorable Mention!
Here is the entry that won First Place, originally published
here on April 20, 2012, for the
Saturday Photo Hunt, with the theme, "Reflect." This was taken at the convention center in Montreal. Because it won First Place in the VPW contest, the photo has been forwarded to compete at the national level in the
National Federation of Press Women contest. National results should be out in a month or so.
