it ain't a coincidence that pitchers and catchers report on valentine's day.

Man. So I dropped $300 on semester books today with still another class to buy texts for, then browsed for an obscenely expensive digital camera, so really, it's fitting to mention here that I still desperately want the Yankees to sign Carlos Beltran ( Read more... )

boys be damned, baseball will make my valentines day perfect nyychick23513 January 7 2005, 22:39:55 UTC
i would give my right arm (or curt schilling's, as i am not picky ^_~) to see carlos beltran in pinstripes. if this makes me a selfish yankee fan, then so be it. but for the record, i was not salivating over the randy johnson deal, so i'm not THAT selfish, right?

did you see the thing last night on sportscenter? buster olney (i think) suggests that beltran's personality isn't "suited well" for the bright lights of NYC. interesting.

i'm just glad we're not getting him.

olney said that? that surprises me...i thought he'd been one of the people for the yankees signing beltran.

i'm not sure what about his personality he thinks wouldn't work in NY. i thought he'd be a great fit for pinstripes.

and what happened to miss "i'm stealing beltran from you!" huh? decide to give him back to me? :P

i think it was olney. he said he didn't think the yankees were going to go get him.

he said that betlran is a deeply religious man who avoids the spotlight. or at least has until now.

$105 mil for 6 years is a little much, dude ;P

Believe me. We, too, can deal with the deeply religious crazy attention-avoid -- oh, wait. Stupid asinine jerkface poopyhead left us to go to Houston.

In other news, a bunch of Yankee blogs have been talking how, if the Yankees don't get Beltran and if they really are convinced that Bernie has had his day, one contingency plan would be to move Jeter to center, return A-Rod to SS and possibly sign some stopgap/temp, including Munson, to share third with this one supposedly upcoming Yankees 3B.

If the blogosphere is talking about it, that's a practical guarantee that it's not going to happen, but hey. :D

munson in a yankees uniform? excuse me while i have a heart attack.

and, out of curiosity, has jeter ever played centerfield before? interesting rumor. . .

No, he hasn't, but current blogger opinion is that he'd make a pretty decent one. Jeter has decent enough speed, and we all know about St. Jeter's AMAZING ball instincts or whatever. The things that kept him from being a good defensive shortstop (ie: inability to go to his left for ground balls) won't matter so much in center, and his arm is good enough for the position.

I mean, at this stage, my hundred pound younger sister has more arm than Bernie. Poor guy.

it'd be interesting to see jeter in centerfield. it's good that the team has a few options even if they don't end up with beltran.

and poor bernie indeed.

okay, then i REALLY doubt it was olney, because he's the one that's been saying all along that beltran will end up with the yankees. but maybe he's got the john kerry disease. :P

wheeee i have beltran back! *squeezes him tight* :P

well, olney was saying that he didn't think beltran would go to the yanks either.

john kerry is just a careful reasoner. :P

yeah, i don't want him! :P we have enough religious guys on the tigers anyway! we don't need beltran too!
