A slightly unhinged guy arrives in Washington, and tape records his conversation with a friend who is trying to talk him out of assassinating George W. Bush. The Iraq news article that features in Checkpoint is this one from the Sydney Morning Herald; as one might expect this entertaining book is a thinly disguised rant against the twin evils of US foreign policy and Republican extremism with several bullets also reserved for the Democrats, but it's a cathartic and erudite one. Recommended.
