Loss of another brother
My brother Dan Alway died this morning. He had been ill all summer, but they didn't know it was liver cancer until last week, and by then he was too far gone. I had a chance to see him Saturday, when he was coherent enough to know who I was, but not much more.
I'm not sure if any of my filk friends ever met him. I know he attended at least one Michigan science fiction convention.
I haven't done a lot with him in recent years, but he was always a good-hearted, amusing presence at family gatherings. I think of him as having the sort of mindset as the NPR "Car Guys," but much, much more soft-spoken.
I believe he was 60.
So my family of origin, once eight, is now four.
(I know several of you know my brother Bob (bigbumble), and if you can't keep everyone straight, Bob is in good health.)
