well i thought dopamine was more like a secondary cause to pathologies like parkinson's and other stuff like epilepsy...

but anyways, i don't know too much about the Red nucleus, let's see if i get this straight:
-it is involved in coordination and movement
-it is the part of the brain that controls arm movement and some upper body muscles, as well as stuff like swinging our arms when we walk

parkinson's affects our neuromotor skillz, which is why people shake
yeah, i see the linkage

parkinson's disease is like all the muscles tense up and the only way for movement to occur is when one muscle group overpowers its atongonist, (for example the biceps brachi V. the triceps brachi, one tries to extend the arm while the other tries to flex it) Thus its a constaint period of muscle tension.

i know that if Dopamine is blocked it can cause this disease, and i know that certain substances can interfere with natural dopamine production.

this is responsible for unconscious movement?

i didn't think it would be the cause

unconscious movements peter17twin July 20 2006, 01:28:40 UTC
well there are several things in charge of unconscious movements. lets see, something called the red nucleus, literally a red nucleus also refines unconscious movements, the cerebellum helps with unconscious movements, and a few others...

basal nuclei...

i think substantia nigra and the red nucleus would be among them.

or maybe not.

but i do know that basal nuclei shape unconscious movement.

also there was a little debate on if humans can have conscious control over unconscious functions...actually imma post this under its own category.
