ok. in your brain there are a few nuclei.
one of these are called the Substantia Nigra.
ok. so this little guy is responsible for releasing a neurotransmitter called Dopamine.
(if ya'll heard of Dopamine already, well idk what kinda parties you've been too)
ok ok so now things get technical; Dopamine being released is linked to "wanting" something, but not necessarily "liking" anything. Dopamine is also usually released in order to anticipate future actions that may end up in a reward be it food, sex, money, etc.
traditionally you do something, you get a reward, if the reward is far beyond what you anticipated this is supposed to signals the release for dopamine as well so its like you do get the satisfaction that you get it but there is another effect to it. The anticipation is then updated to match this past experience in order that you don't get overwhelmed again.
a classic example: a crackhead. gets high the first time, never gets that same high again unless they move on to stronger stuff or at least different stuff.
so what was i thinking about? dopamine is linked to "wanting" and not necessarily "liking", that and i've heard that if Dopamine is blocked it could lead to parkinson's disease. this disease part may hint at what relationship the Substantia Nigra has with another nuclei: the Red Nucleus, which I believe is responsible for unconscious movement...or unconscious LEARNED movement.
man my mind coming unraveled...
yeah i forgot what this all lead up to. i guess it'll come to me later
tell me what ya think.
